My mom had postpartum depression after my sister and it really was difficult for her to cope with everything. She was very sad all the time and I helped out a lot with my baby sister.

I am a 20 yr old mother with no job or car. I should have done better for myself, but I didn't. I have a car to drive now, but it's not my car. Some old one that I don't trust for me and my child. Finding a job is very difficult these days. I want to go to college so bad. My parents can't help me because they have 3 others to take care of. Plus this economy is getting bad. As a mom I want to do better for me and especially my child. College is something I want to do. I'm not sure of what I want to do yet, but I know as a single mother that is dependent of her parents I feel horrible. Who knows if I can get into college cause of me slacking tremendously my final school yr. I am so worry of me and my sons future. So I am trying to find scholarships. Still it's hard.

NASW has a journal on children and school which is interesting because it goes into ADHD, school violence and working as a social worker in the school system. If you are in this field it's very useful.

Perry- That's the beauty of referrals--if you come across a client who you think will cause you to bring your own issues into therapy, you can simply refer them to another counselor. It's not being a bad counselor. In fact, having self-awareness like you do is what makes a strong counselor. Also, you might surprise yourself with how much you can actually put aside your own past to help others with similar situations that you grew up with. So i say go for it!

You can also find job offerings in the nasw newsletter in their classified section. I saw some locally in florida as well as office rental listings and continuing education workshops credit offerings.

I think people that live out of the area don't realize how close New Jersey is to NYC. It is an easy commute and people do it from port authority or penn station every day. It can be cheaper living in NJ for going to social work school and you still have the advantage of weekend fun in NYC. Or you can get the msw in NY but live in NJ and commute too.

read this very accurate artice.I'm an Oncology Social Worker and we are all very much "on the emotional front" when it comes to meeting with ,assisting cancer patients and the whole family unit

It's paramount to have the ability/intuition to know just when to assist and become proactive and when not to "push". WE are serving these patients at a very vulnerable time in their lives. We need to be mindful at all times that it is a privilege to pop into their lives at such a difficult time.

We need to be quiet, listen attentively , be professional and very very sensitive to each different cancer patient and their family members.

Sincerely ,
lauren Hyman,MSW ACSW

I'm starting my msw program in fall and don't think I could work with very sick patients and their families because I wouldn't stop thinking about them and what they go through. I want to do counseling but it would be hard to work with the terminally ill.
