My grandson got his msw from Barry University School of Social Work and it is a good school. My neice is looking into Nova U for the bsw program- it is in fort lauderdale and I think near the airport. She likes fort lauderdale better as a place to live.

I told my therapist that I would get red in the face at my brother for how he treated me and I pictured how I'd hit him. He told my parents which turned out to be good because we had some family sessions and that changed how he treated me. We still don't get along great but it is much better.

I think for me being a social worker would be more rewarding than nursing because I don't want to take anatomy and lots of science courses but am more interested in people's emotional changes.

Social workers engaged in counseling should also have their own therapist to talk to. I found once I started doing this I was much more effective as a therapist.

Hey,

Thanks for this list. I know that the Ben Stiller movies make being a male nurse look gay but I really think I'd be good at this and want to do this in the future. JB

I am a jersey girl and got my msw degree. After graduating and settling down,I found the nasw meetings in nj were very good for getting to meet people that connected me to someone in a company I wanted to work. I was able to get a job there after unsuccessfully getting no interview for a year. Networking is the way to go and that's an edge you need today in getting a job, even a bsw job or msw position.

The school social worker helped my daughter when she was dealing with rejection by other children. She helped her self-esteem and I'm happy to say that the counseling made a difference in her life. I just read that they are trying to cut out social workers from school budgets which would be a bad mistake.

We had a social worker come in after someone was assaulted in the basement. It helped to know being shaken up for a while was normal. Must be rough to talk to people in crisis a lot.

When I went to marital counseling it was a big blamefest and it is easy to point the finger, let's face it. We got divorced and now I see things I did that were really rude. I think we still like each other but both have too much pride to admit it.

Well, I've been in therapy for 3 years and I think it's true that change is not something anyone "likes". It is difficult, painful and makes me fidget a lot to look at my life, behaviors and relationships from the standpoint of my own issues. I like "reading" about change, but doing it is something else.
